Recreation Commission – May 13, 2024

Recreation Commission Meeting.

The Franklin Recreation Commission held a meeting on May 13, 2024, at the Village Hall office (141 Water Street) at 6:05PM. Present: Mayor VanDeusen, Trustee Wilson, Trustee Martin, Clerk/Treasurer Niebanck, Deputy Clerk Martin, Pool Director Banks, Field Sports Director Beadle, and guests recorded on the sign-in register. The meeting was streamed and recorded on the video platform Zoom.

Treasurer’s Report:
– Date: April 30, 2024
– Recreation Commission $58,258.61
Business Checking account with 5% interest rate.

Fundraising efforts: Approximately $5000 has come in from fundraising letter.

Sand Filter Globes: Connie applied for O’Connor grant; received estimate from 21st Century Pools; we’ll hear from O’Connor about funds by end of May.

Hot water heaters: Kennedy Plumbing proposing 30gal hot water tank in office; will send estimates; will apply for O’Connor grant.

Other: Would like to have: pool lights – some that float in water and lounge chairs. 5 plastic chairs will be donated; shed key is in the office; Trustee Wilson donating lawn mower.

Grants: NYS announced large grant for rural pools; applications start June 1. May need to hire a grant writer.

Field Sports Director Report: Working on T-Ball and have been practicing; 18 kids signed up; bought a lock for the dugout; one game scheduled; getting a quote for T-shirts; money collected for sign-ups. Plans: edible walking trail with print outs/snacks/recipes; East Sidney Dam day with cookout; plan an event in Treadwell (self-defense class, petting zoo, etc.). Maybe some fall soccer.

Pool Director Report: Will look for a WSI; pools hours will remain the same 1-7pm/7 days per week; will look over pool rules and make sure they are up to date; will check area pools for ages when kids can come by themselves; will plan end of year party with Field Sports Director. Need new pool deck signage and paint; bathrooms need a good cleaning. Will start a list of what needs to be repaired or replaced. Will figure out particulars for pool parties. Joanna will work with Clerk to fill out and submit the pool permit to DOH. Fundraising: concessions, pool parties with food. Mayor is admin on Facebook page and will add Rec Leaders as admins as well.

Citizens’ Comments: none.
